This blog post is brought to you by an ancient pair of black thigh high boots that have been living in the depths of my closet for most of my twenties. In a feeble attempt to construct a pajama party ensemble tonight, I dug the boots out of the trenches. And (omfg) they FIT.

While not particularly tasteful (or in season for that matter), these boots were the inspiration behind many a fabulously sordid nights during my youth.

I feel sure my super powers have returned.

In celebration of this momentous development, I think a blog post of my current muses is in order. So, without further adieu (and in no particular order), I present a few of my current favorite things:

Procrastinating, getting stressed and freaking out is so 2009. Instead, I greatly prefer to simply get shit done. Who knew?

While the majority of my current caloric intake is still just the break-up staples of chocolate and booze, I've got to have a fab table to play home to all the fabulous dinner parties I'm hosting in my mind.

My vintage mid century dining set is finally in place, along with two additional nailhead-trimmed wing chairs. Trying to decide on paint/stain/upholstery updates... Leaning towards doing the table in glossy white, chairs touched up with some deep walnut stain and some blue/grey leopard print fabric on the seats. (Not to mention a new girly chandelier and table top accessories. So many projects, so little time.)

Jeep rides while still buzzed on cool fall mornings.

Still knowing the words to all the gansta rap songs that white people like to dance to.

Having him want me back and being okay with saying "No way."

I'm finding that life as a single gal ain't half bad.

Sure there's no one there to curl up next to and make me feel small and safe.

But that also mean not having to share the covers. And, dammit, I really like my down comforter.

I love only doing two loads of laundry a week.

And never being surprised when the milk is gone.

Sure, my heart aches from time to time. But that's nothing that a little gossip session with the gals or a few hours of retail therapy can't fix.

I guess what's really changing is my newfound clarity and confidence. Sure, I'm not the greatest housekeeper and I may not make it to church every Sunday (or ever), but f*ckin'A, I'm a pretty cool chick. (and, in the eternal wisdom of Parker Posey, "I'm beautiful, dammit!") I don't deserve to be constantly tormented for my flaws. And no one should tolerate feeling hated in their own home.

Overall, I think the biggest challenge in getting out of a dysfunctional relationship is that urgent desire to jump right back into another one... but, frankly, I don't think I can find better company than my smelly little dog and a Google Reader account full of inspiration.

Right now I'm taking care of me. I'm finding my things again.

Forget the we. The us. The he. I'm so done.

Got something in the works in this little head of mine...

Going from a 2200+ square foot house with lots of rooms (and even more closets) to a modern open loft is going to take some major adjustments. My style has progressed and I'm a little nervous about whether I can "make it work". I'd love to start with a clean, white slate, but 30+ foot walls aren't exactly my DIY painting dream. Gonna work with what I've got:

Ugly "eggplant" carpet. BRIGHT-ass blue moveable wall. Honey colored hardwood.

Nothing says Happy Friday like a fruity martini and a new piece of furniture...or two.

I just scored two new ottomans for under $50 bucks. Sweet! Sure they're probably horrifially uncomfortable and impossible to balance a drink on, but they sort of remind me of a tomato cage (or maybe it's a chicken coup...) and I think they're fab. And perfect for creating that super-symmetrical living room arrangement I'm always swooning over:
